The purpose of the LACLS Library Training Seminar is to help schools develop and maintain their libraries. Traditionally this seminar is a three-day on site seminar. Each session is targeted for the development of a specific library need. Sessions also include practical hands-on work and training in library functions.

Library Training Sessions Offered:

  • Library Philosophy: definition of a library, objectives, history and general vocabulary.
  • Administration: an overall picture of how a library should be run. Selection and Acquisition of books.
  • Cataloging and Classification: ways to find proper book categories, how to choose Dewey Decimal numbers and a revised manual to help with classifications.
  • Computer Programs: presentation of the Library management software and its benefits.
  • Practical Workshops: visit a local library, evaluate one's own library and practice classification skills.
